[Well, see, if he lets go of Kalim? Given how badly balanced Kalim is, being on his lap instead on Carpet, he might fall if Carpet has to make a sudden turn. And given how Jamil had committed to throwing Kalim into the nearest body of water, he couldn't exactly expect Kalim to sit patiently and wait for that. (Except Kalim was absolutely strong enough to squirm free if he wanted to, and Jamil knew it, and he knew he was lying to himself if he pretended things were otherwise.)
